Ronkonkoma
Lake Ronkonkoma is a neighborhood within Ronkonkoma in Suffolk County, New York that is home to its namesake, Lake Ronkonkoma, the largest fresh water lake on Long Island, New York. Lake Ronkonkoma is considered by locals as being a hamlet, which is a community inside a larger town that is not incorporated as a village but is identified by its own name. Lake Ronkonkoma, once a thriving resort town, is mainly situated inside the town limits of the Town of Brookhaven, although smaller sections of the neighborhood are interspersed with the Town of Smithtown and the Town of Islip.
Lake Ronkonkoma is not safe from native folklore and belief. Native American folklore claim that “The Lady of the Lake,” Princess Ronkonkoma summons young men to her in the middle of the lake and then drowns them.
