West Groton
West Groton is a tiny and beautiful upscale community in Middlesex County, in northwestern Massachusetts. The community consists of gorgeous single-family homes on huge lots, and is nestled up against protected forests, wilderness preserves, and spectacular protected open space areas. West Groton is situated near the Nashua River and the Squannacook River, and the nearest large towns are Groton, MA and Townsend, MA. West Groton is a very historic town; it was first settled in 1655, and was named in honor of an early settler who was born in Groton, in Suffolk County, England. This area of the state originally depending on a number of industries including a soap stone quarry, a hop growing industry, brick factories, a grist mill, and a pewter meal which produced pewter for teapots and other items. There are numerous gorgeous historic structures throughout the area, including an original church dating back to 1755 that was used as an assembly area for the Groton Minutemen in their battle against the British.
