Urania
The small town of Urania, Louisiana was established in 1898 by the state’s “first conservationist” Henry E. Hardtner. Originally nothing more than a sawmill community; Urania evolved over the years to become one of the largest such operations in the United States. Through the following years, Urania became a laboratory of sorts for conservation, research, and forestry experimentation, which has provided an abundance of valuable insight into forestation across the country.
Today, Urania remains a prominent forestry area, though the community has grown to a town of just over 700 residents. With only a handful of classic businesses in the town area, and a spread of rural residential areas, Urania retains the charming small-town feel that it has long been known for. Conveniently situated near U.S. Highways 165 and 84, Urania is convenient to nearby larger towns offering a variety of options for shopping, dining, and entertainment.
