Mount Pleasant
The village of Mount Pleasant, which was actually named for its scenery, is located in Jefferson County, Ohio and has some beautiful landscapes, filled with farm town and green pastures. If you are interested in visiting a whole new world, filled with a much simpler life, then this is the place to set your sites for your next vacation. This village has a population of over 400, with about 192 households, and 143 families residing in the village that is only 0.26 square miles. There are mostly families within the area, with children, and friendly neighbors, so it is a very safe place to visit, work, and live, albeit a little out of the way. However, if that is something you are looking for; it is a great way to get away from it all.
Mount Pleasant came to be in the year 1803, and in the year 1821, this was the town where Benjamin Lundy, started publishing “The Genius of Universal Emancipation”, which was an abolitionist newspaper, that was one of the key forms of communication at that time. Then, by the year 1833, Mount Pleasant was made up of a bank, a school, personalized homes, a printing office, several stores, a brick market house, and a brick Quaker meeting house. Now, many of the different homes and shops have been preserved as historical locations.
