Huntington Station
Huntington Station is a hamlet in Suffolk County, New York. It's small and the neighborhood of Caledonia which is tucked inside the hamlet is even smaller. It's less than two square miles in area, and less than 2,000 people call it home. The Caledonia area is slightly more affluent and educated than the rest of Huntington Station. The neighborhood is pretty, well-preserved, and cozy. It has a privileged atmosphere and most of the residents seem content with their quiet lives.
Walt Whitman was born in Huntington Station, and his home has been turned into a museum. There is also a shopping mall named after him. It's called the Walt Whitman Shops, and if you are a fan of the man's poetry, you know the idea that a shopping mall is named after Whitman is slightly ironic. Other notable people who have spent time in Huntington Station include the heavyweight boxer Gerry Cooney and Jim Wetherbee, an astronaut.
