Canton
A charter township of 90,000 residents, Canton, Michigan, is located a half-hour west of Detroit. This is one of the state's fastest growing communities, and it consists of two historic communities, Sheldon's Corners, and Cherry Hill. The latter is the site of a new development that is intended to resemble the town of Canton as it was 100 years ago. The area has an excellent mix of dining, shopping, and great things to do.
Residents enjoy a good quality of life with plenty of parks and green space, and superb city services and facilities. There are community events here like a farmer's market, and parades and celebrations throughout the calendar year.
Two of the top employers in the area are Wal-Mart and the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools. It is home to several Detroit Lions football players and other former professional sports stars. It is home to two 27-hole golf courses ideal for just about any level of player. There is a senior citizen center that encourages active participation in the community.
The crime rate is low by area standards and this is a good place to raise a family. There is also enough nightlife in the area to satisfy the younger population here. Just a few miles west is the University of Michigan, and the town is home to many students who attend school there. A short drive to the east is the city of Detroit, where one can take in a professional baseball or football game.
