Jefferson City
The state capital of Missouri is the county seat of Cole County. Jefferson City has a population of about 45,000 residents, most of whom live in households with children. Being a relatively small city, it was named the nation's “Most Beautiful” Small Town to live in in 2013. The city is located centrally within the state, at the northern edge of the Ozark Plateau on the southern side of the Missouri River. Missouri Rhineland, a wine-producing region, is nearby, as is the bluff that Lewis and Clark passed under on their cross-country journey all those years ago.
