Rosemead
Wilmar is primarily a residential neighborhood in the town of Rosemead in Los Angeles County in the State of California. The area got its name from “Arkies,” people who migrated from Arkansas. They named the area after Wilmar, Arkansas. In the early 1950s, the neighborhood was joined with the unincorporated communities of Garvey in the east and Potrero Heights in the south, to become the unincorporated community of South San Gabriel. The majority of South San Gabriel, including the Wilmar area, was later annexed by the city of Rosemead during the mid-1960s. Today, Wilmar is a mixed-race neighborhood of Caucasian, Latino, and Hispanic cultures, with English and Spanish being the most commonly spoken languages.
