Williamsport
Williamsport, Pennsylvania is a medium-sized city in the north-central part of the state just northwest of Philadelphia; it lies along the beautiful Susquehanna River. This attractive city has an interesting history. During the 1800s, Williamsport was known as the lumber capital of the world, due to its burgeoning lumber industry. In the early 20th century, it became the founding site of Little League Baseball. At one point, Williamsport was home to more millionaires than any other place on earth. At present, Williamsport has been a beneficiary of federal economic revitalization programs as changing worldwide conditions took a toll. The discovery of the Marcellus Shale also means that Williamsport is now the site of significant amounts of drilling for natural gas.
