Sand City
Live, work, and play. This is the lifestyle motto of Sand City, California, a small artistic community on the beautiful Monterey coast. Approximately 115 miles south of San Francisco, the city encompasses about 350 acres of land on the Monterey Peninsula. Sand City lies on the scenic Highway 1, which creates a beautiful view the length of the city.
Enjoy biking through town – a favorite activity for residents and visitors alike – or spend the day shopping and dining at local eateries. Even further, if you’re an art buff, you have the perfect opportunity to visit artists’ studios. The Sand City community has a vision of a sustainable, thriving future. The long-term goal is to build on existing qualities to create a more vibrant community. Sand City has some of the most sustainable buildings in the state of California and brings a unique combination of small-town life, coastal lifestyle, and 21st century technology.
Incorporated in 1960, Sand City’s history shows steady progress, especially recently with the development of two shopping centers where there was once a significant case of urban blight. The city has served the Monterey Peninsula as a commercial base, currently providing jobs for about 3,000 and attracting 40,000 to 50,000 shoppers on a daily basis to the city’s establishments.
