San Bernardino
San Bernardino is an incorporated city located in the Inland Empire of Southern California. It is 60 miles due east of Los Angeles, occupying almost 60,000 square miles within San Bernardino County. San Bernardino is the county seat of the largest county in area (more than 20,000 square miles) in the United States. It enjoys a mild, temperate climate averaging 50 degrees year-round.
San Bernardino is named for a Catholic priest, Bernardino of Siena, who first established a mission in the valley and began a long and continuing tradition of religious tolerance of eventually many denominations who settled the area. The city was incorporated in 1857. The city is uniquely blessed in Southern California with an abundance of fresh water in underground aquifers.
