Somerset
Somerset is located in Pulaski County of the state of Kentucky and has a population of about 11,200. The city covers about 11.3 square miles and several major highways run through the area including State Highway 80 and U.S. Route 27. Interestingly enough, this city was named after Somerset, New Jersey as some of Somerset, KY's original settlers in 1798 came from that town.
Tourism is one of the biggest parts of the economy in Somerset and each year visitor's flock to Lake Cumberland which is just over 40 miles away from the city towards the southwest. Within the actual city limits of Somerset, most of the activity takes place along U.S. Route 27 including restaurants, hotels, and shopping centers.
Two public school systems operate within Somerset and they are the Pulaski County and Somerset Independent school districts. For higher education, residents can attend Somerset Community College which belongs to the Kentucky Community and Technical College System and is known for offering an Aviation Maintenance Technology program.
