Lake Worth
Just a few miles south of West Palm Beach, Florida is Lake Worth, a small area with a hearty dose of charm. Compared to the multi-million resident population of the area that comprises the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach Metropolitan Area, Lake Worth’s 34,000 residents is quaint. That does not mean that Lake Worth is short of amenities, convenience, and beauty, however.
Originally established by ex-slave settlers in the 1880’s, Lake Worth did not become named as it is today until closer to the start of the 20th Century. A pinnacle of history in the area as the railroad moved south, Lake Worth was a growing community by 1910, and already housed more than 300 residents. During the early 20th Century, tourism began to spring up along the beaches after a bridge was built over Lake Worth. After World War II, the area experienced new growth as immigrants moved into the area bringing culture and innovation. Like most cities, the area has seen its fair share of decline and hardship, though now, revitalization efforts are increasingly successful in bringing in new business and tourism.
