New Bern
New Bern is a small city in the state of North Carolina, located in Craven County. It is situated at the convergence point of the Neuse and Trent Rivers. It is famously the birthplace of the soft drink Pepsi Cola. The city was originally settled by Swiss and German immigrants, named “New Bern” in honor of Bern, the Swiss capital. This is the second oldest colonial town in the state and briefly served as the capital of the state. Since the American Revolution it has grown into a wealthy and culturally rich town, often referred to as the “Athens of the South” in honor of its Masonic Temple and the Athens Theater. Today, both sites remain active and the city retains its affluence and truly East-Coast attitude.
