Beaufort
There is a lot to admire in Beaufort, South Carolina. There’s the Beaufort River and many nature parks, but above all, there is history. Pre-Civil War architectures adorn the city like the pins on the uniform of a proud American soldier. Established in 1711, Beaufort is the second-oldest city in the state. There’s a strong military culture since the U.S. Naval Hospital, the Marine Corps Air Station, and Parris Island are nearby. Locals are aware that they live in a historical-gem-of-a-town and so are visitors. One of Beaufort’s main attractions is indeed the traces and traditions past residents have left behind.
