Somerville
Somerville is located in Morgan County, Alabama and is part of the Decatur Metropolitan Area. It is also considered part of Huntsville-Decatur Metropolitan Combined Area. The town was named after Robert M. Summerville who was an officer that fought and died in the 1814 Creek Indian War.
This is a small town with around 700 residents and only about one square mile of land. The main roads running through the area are Main Street and State Highway 67. As you travel north of Center Springs Road, Main Street becomes Bluff City Road and as you head south of State Highway 67 it becomes Cut-Off Road. Somerville is home to Somerville School which is a public school that is part of the Morgan County School District made up of 20 schools.
The city is home to the Somerville Courthouse which was erected in 1837 and is considered to be federal-style architecture. Before the county seat was moved to Decatur in 1891 the building served as the Morgan County Courthouse and is listed with the National Register of Historic Places.
