Sonora
Sonora, California is located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. The city was named after miners originally from Sonora, Mexico that settled this city during 1848. Many of the buildings within Sonora, CA stand strong despite being built back in the 1800s.
Sonora has a rich history as a mining town since 1851 when it was created as a mining camp. This history of gold mining is part of the reason behind the city's nickname of “Queen of the Southern Mines.” When it was first created, Sonora was the central city in the area due to its mining and today it remains the cultural and commercial center of the area.
This area has a small-town feel as well as the hospitality to go with it and plenty of attractions for history lovers. The historic district is the best place to find restaurants, antique shops, and other activities.
